Valfleury is situated on the edge of the Gier valley at the far edge of the Monts du Lyonnais. Visitors discovering this commune closed in by the mountains will be attracted by the high apse of the church surmounted by a pointed spire.
Some history
Loyal to its history and the religious presence since the Middle Ages, Valfleury is an important place of pilgrimage: each year, thousands of people take part in the “virgin with the gold jennet”.

Le Rosaire (The rosary)
The 15 kiosks of the Rosary are terraced along an abrupt lane which was carved into the rocky mass; they shelter the different sculptures wof Fabisch which show the Mysteries of the Rosary. The Calvaire is above the church.

The church
The church was freely inspired by the Gothic style in the first half of the 13th century; it was built out of «houiller” sandstone. The architectural sculptures were mainly made by the artist Joseph-Hugues Fabisch from Lyons.
The Croix Blanche, or the croix de Saint-Chamond
A cross in white stone which dominates the Gier valley.
