Some history
Thanks to the metal industry: straps, iron shops and nail shops were set up along the Ondaine from the start of the 17th century. In 1829, the Unieux Iron shops were built by Jacob Holtzer along the Ondaine.

this old peasant hamlet dating back three centuries ago was entirely renovated and today holds a youth hostel.
The Fenderie Mill
The fenderie mill was provided by water from the Ondaine.
The Pertuiset
The Bicentenary Bridge: the abandoning of the road tunnel
Built in 1987, the Bicentenary bridge replaced all other bridges deemed too narrow and fragile to hold daily traffic. The new bridge is built with shrouds and is like a suspended bridge.
The old viaduct of the old train track
Built in 1883-1884 and 94.24m long, this is one of seven built over the Loire between Firminy and Saint-Just-sur-Loire.
The Noirie hamlet
The Noirie is an old cole port, drowned under the dam water, where the cole from Firminy was loaded onto flat bottommed boats, then heading to Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert.
The town hall The Hôtel de ville of Unieux is at the same time unique and representative of the architectural design of the 20th century. With its ranking on the national wealth list in the 20th century, it was officially recognized.

The Echandes dolmen
According to legend, the dolmen gives way to a magnificent treasure on Christmas Day.
But only the first person to set foot there on that day can see this spectacle...
Clue: Take the youth hostel road and once you arrive at the stone steps, go up until the top…there you will see the Pertuiset, look just underneath… Numerous mountain bike and hiking trails are around the village and attach it to the other towns and villages of the Loire and Ondaine gorges.
