Some history
Benedictin monks came and built the Priory in 1060 that they occupied until the 16th century. Until 1800, Saint-Romain had an important rise.
The Pinay Chapel
Essential visiting
Senevas Castle
Confiscated as a national good under the Revolution, the castle was sold in lots to the inhabitants.
Today, you can see some beautiful stone arches that once supported the castle.
The Pinay Chapel
From 1522, it was rebuilt in 1880 in the same place. It kept the original altar that was completely restored.
During the explosion of 2003, The glass was shattered, the doors were broken but the chapel survived.
The Crosses
Many crosses are found in and around the village.
The village centre with its ancient small streets
currently being restored
Rue des Verchères
Anciently, it was the entrance to the fortified village whose origins date back to the Celts.
Rue Gourguillon
this word is close to gargoyle, onomatopoeia imitating the sound of water that is streaming in a gutter with a sudden slope.
The houses are ancient. They all have an arched cellar where people could put the wine barrels. Today, they serve to keep apples during the winter because of their constant temperature.
Rue Furette
The smallest street but the most beautiful. It is fine and narrow, ferret style. The town’s bakery where the old oven can be seen is a must.
