A panoramic viewpoint over the Monts du Forez mountains
Saint-Héand
Situated in the west of the Rhône-Alps region, the charming village of Saint-Héand is perched on the west side of the Monts du Lyonnais which makes it a remarkable viewpoint for looking over the Plaine and the Monts du Forez.
Some history
During the Gallo-Roman era, a commune existed on the hillside and dominated the current town centre, called Mont-Pailloux (in latin Mont-Palliatus means fortified or protected Mount).
The Pierre de la Bauche (Bauche stone)
The highest point of the commune is 872 metres high and from here you can admire a wonderful view where you will be able to make out seven French geographical departments.
The Monichard woods
These woods stretch out over 7825 acres and are a wonderful place for a stroll.
The vieux logis or the house of François the 1st
The old 15th century Renaissance style home belong to the Tréméolles de Barges family and the families they married into, the Damas and the Fayeul families, who were mainly lords of the village. On the first floor, the coats of arms of these families adorn the beams. In a vast room overlooking the square, the sculpted front of a monumental fireplace represents the coat of arms belonging to Françoise de Fayeul who married Pierre Gabriel de Tréméolles de Barges in 1661 the Captain Lord (Châtelain).
