Saint-Chamond is the transformation over the centuries of the name Saint-Ennemond, Bishop of Lyon. Little by little, the village prospered around the castle built in the middle Ages.

Notre Dame Church
The inside shelters a large altar made of Carrare marble and a stained glass window of Saint-Ennemond, patron saint of the town.

Stroll in the town center
Numerous residences and old 18th century mansions can be found along the rue de la République. Not to be missed are rue Alsace Lorraine and rue de la République, the old Hôtel Dieu, Saint-Pierre Church (considered as a Historic Monument), the Saint-Ennemond hill, the Maison des Chanoines (Historic monument), the Saint-Ennemond Church, the observatory place, the town hall.

The old Gillet Thaon dyeworks/dry cleaning (1876), the Giat Industries chimneys (1863), the Hôtel Royer de la Bastie, at the champ de Geai, the Hôtel ( which shelters a bank, rue Victor Hugo, inaugurated in 1901), the Jarez castle (at the angle of the rue Benoît Oriol and the rue Victor Hugo), the collège Sainte-Marie (route du coin, built in 1877), the Saint-Julien-en-Jarez Church from the 18th century, Notre Dame de l’Hermitage.

Activities and Leisure
Alpacas stock
Unique in the region, and rare in France, Saint Chamond has an alpacas husbandry (a cousin of lamas) that provide luxurious wool, sought worldwide. You can see the animals, touch the wool and see finished knitted products.
Visits require a reservation.
