La Valla-en-Gier starts upstream of the Soulages dam (440m) and goes to the Perdrix Peak (1390m), carved by two valleys of Gier and Ban, the community has 1600 acres of forests, which gives plenty of opportunities for walks.
Some history
The community of La Valla-en-Gier is marked by Marcellin Champagnat , the Priest of La-Valla-en-Gier in 1816. He founded the congregation of the marist brothers in 1817.
Essential visiting
The Renaissance Well ranked on the inventory of Historical Monuments.This 16th century well is situated in the Rocheclaine center, opposite the Town Hall.
The Eytra Chapel
Le Saut du Gier (Gier Waterfall). The Gier dives into a gorge to change to a spectacular cascade in an impressive cliff.
The Rivoire Rock appears as a powerful spur with its wood sheltering in the folds de of its slopes several hamlets.
The Jasserie with its curious bell, the Jasserie looks toward the Perdrix peak, crowed with chirats. This site is visited by Sunday walkers.
The Chirats, a local curiosity are pockets that cover the spills on the oriental border of the French Massif Central. These rocky spills can be as long as a kilometer.
The Soulages Cross (1657). It represents the 4 patrons of donors of the cross : Saints Jean-Baptiste, Christophe, André and a Bishop.
The Madonna
The Astronomy Observatory of Luzernod. The concrete armed building supports a dome that is 5 m in diameter. Each Friday night, weather permitting, the MJC of Saint-Chamond introduces you to astronomy. Reservation recommended.
