The commune was established in 1843, in reply to the rapid expansion of the population of miners. The Pigeot pit, the last extraction mine was closed in 1983 and demolished in 1989-90.

The mine trail
This trail goes over part of the commune’s history.
Starting point: place Michel Rondet, in front of the town hall (mairie), near the statue in effigy of Michel Rondet, a symbol of the mine corporation. Follow the green and blue markings.
During your walk, you will see the Monument de la fusillade (Shooting monument): the Brûlé (Burned), the Combes pit and the Combes estate. Guide available at the Tourist Office.

This is a testimony of the mining past. The slag heap is capable of letting off wisps of smoke.

A relatively confidential little museum full of memories both material and human of the coal mining past.
The ecological priority site of the Ondenon small valleys The area of the northern foothills of the Pilat was integrated into the Natura 2000 network because of its interesting natural heritage, notably the dry heath, natural habitats on the decline on a European scale. These heaths are home to a very diversified flora and fauna.
