A Middle Age influence
Situated on a steep site, the village of Dargoire is an invitation for a stroll to discover the narrow streets.
Some history
Celtic, Gallo-Roman or even Latin origins have all been evoked (la goria).
Some dates
Three co-lords shared the bourg (the town centre) and the château of Dargoire. In 1590, a battle separated the protestants. The battle was marked by the victory of the Protestants who did not manage to seize the castle however. In 1793, the château of Dargoire was plundered and dismantled.
Essential visiting
The medieval town centre, its door and the streets
The vierge fanal (literally the beacon virgin) Placed at the very top of the church or château, she apparently had a lantern which was embedded in her chest. This was used as a signal to the pilgrims on their way to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The statue is on display in the entrance hall of the town hall.
