In the Regional Park of Pilat

Situated in the Pilat Massif, the Rocher de Châteauneuf (the Rock of Châteauneuf), where the fortress used to be, dominates the valley of Gier, in a narrow and windy gorge.


Some history
The son of Artaud the third, William, bequeathed the castles of Nervieu and Châteauneuf to his wife, Béatrix de Coligny.

  • The Couzon dam – a place to stroll
    This is the oldest dams built in 1788 and was one of the first six constructed in France. The viewpoints are magnificent. The Couzon dam is a true work of art both technically and artisticallyue.
  • Marlin’s rocks
    In the cluster of megaliths, you will come across an unusual stone in the shape of a menhir placed on a rocky outcrop. This stone is known as “the devil’s stone” or “the singing stone”.
